30th Anniversary Celebration and Home Giveaway!
At 6 pm on Friday, June 9th, Nehemiah Community Revitalization Corporation (CRC) will host a Backyard BBQ themed celebration in honor of 30 years of provision of affordable housing to lower income individuals and families in South Carolina. The celebration will be held at Greer City Events Hall, 301 East Poinsett Street, Greer, SC.
Nehemiah will also be celebrating the start of Needmore Place II. This project will consist of three homeownership units for lower income families with one being part of a home give away. The recipient of the Home Give-Away, as well as the other two prospective homeowners will be present at the celebration. This project was made possible because Nehemiah CRC was awarded $150,000 from the 2023 Community Economic Development (CED) Fund. This funding was made available thanks to the State Legislature appropriating a total of $4 million in the state budget in 2021 & 2022. The CED Fund supports community economic development projects in South Carolina to state certified community development corporations and community development financial institutions through a competitive grant process administered in partnership with SC Department of Commerce and SC Association for Community Economic Development (SCACED).
The completed homes will not only provide decent, safe and affordable housing to lower income workforce families in Greenville County, but also an opportunity for low wealth families to begin to build wealth and a lasting legacy for their family.
“Three families may enjoy Christmas this year in a new, safe, affordable home”, Natoshia Mayer, president of Nehemiah CRC commented. “Seeing the smiling faces of the families we serve is what motivates us to continue to do what we do in spite of the many challenges we face accomplishing our mission.”
In addition to the CED Grant, TD Bank provided financing for the development supplemented with funding from the Greenville County Redevelopment Authority.
Nehemiah CRC is a faith-based, non-profit, affordable housing development corporation with a mission to serve as a community developer and catalyst, empowering and nurturing collaborations to provide quality, affordable housing and economic opportunities for low income people of South Carolina. To date, Nehemiah has developed over 1.400 affordable housing units for lower income individuals and families.
